For a family struggling to afford a place to live in Bucks County, four years of stable housing can change everything.
Woodside Church in Yardley is helping Angel Housing Solutions (AHS) make that stability possible. The church has pledged $71,000 over four years to help provide an affordable two-bedroom apartment for a family working toward economic self-sufficiency. AHS has received the first $17,750 installment.
The partnership comes as AHS begins welcoming families into its first property, a four-unit building in Warminster. Three apartments are rented at market rates, generating income that helps sustain the property and support AHS’s nonprofit mission of providing affordable housing to Bucks County families. Together with charitable contributions and community partnerships, this model allows AHS to make one of the building’s apartments available at an affordable rate.
AHS works with the Bucks County Opportunity Council’s Economic Self-Sufficiency Program to identify families who can benefit from stable housing while working toward greater financial independence.
Woodside’s commitment means AHS can extend that opportunity to another family.
The partnership grew out of Woodside Church’s 75th anniversary and its longstanding commitment to helping neighbors experiencing housing insecurity. Pastor Doug Hoglund told Patch that the church has been involved in Code Blue efforts serving people experiencing homelessness for 17 years, but the congregation also wanted to help families who are living without a stable home.
The four-year commitment is especially significant because it corresponds with the typical length of the Opportunity Council’s Economic Self-Sufficiency Program, giving a family time not simply to find shelter, but to build a more secure future.
For AHS, the partnership demonstrates how a church, business or community organization can turn generosity into something tangible: years of housing stability for a local family.
“We believe this is the beginning of a long-term relationship between our three organizations,” Hoglund said of Woodside, AHS and the Opportunity Council.
AHS was founded on a simple but ambitious idea: provide permanently affordable rental housing that gives Bucks County families a foundation from which to build financial security. Rental income from its properties is reinvested in that mission, while contributions from partners such as Woodside Church help AHS expand its reach and provide stable housing to more families.
Woodside Church has shown what it looks like when a community organization steps forward to help make that idea a reality.
